The Farm Pedals Limited Edition Expanding Universe is yet another well-crafted breath of fresh air from some of our favorite Maine-iacs up north. Created outside of the norms of your standard spring/plate/hall reverbs, the Expanding Universe's exceedingly simple controls belie its ability to dial in wide-ranging sounds from subtle atmosphere and drippy pseudo-springs to ethereal delays and beyond.
At its core, the Farm Pedals Expanding Universe is multiple delay lines that can be melted down, smeared, darkened, and—of course—expanded greatly so you can find you own lo-fi reverb or delay flavor. The controls are labeled and described by Farm Pedals as:
1: "Dark or metallic; short or long". This is somewhat of a tone control taking the reverb tails from subtle, warm, space-filling ambience up through bright and spring-y goodness
2: "Small or large". Knob #2 is very interactive with knob #3 and shouldn't be dismissed as simply your basic "size" control
3: "Near or far". This is where you can start playing with separating the delay lines and knob #3 has a knack for changing the character of the settings of the other 2 knobs.
The esoteric descriptions are not merely the machinations of maniacal pedal peddlers. The control scheme was very intentionally created to demand experimentation and place you far outside the four walls of run-of-the-mill reverbs. See where the universe takes you.
